Bennett is rolling over

Bennett is using his "hidden" powers to turn himself over. We aren't seeing it happen - he's on his back, then he's on his belly!

Bennett's First Meal

Bennett got the go-ahead at his 4 month check up for solid foods. He was surprised at the oatmeal, but liked it plenty!

What do these things have in common?

The answer: They have both been up Katie's nose. She's usually so good! She follows directions, she listens to rules. She know that she shouldn't put things up her nose. I don't know what made her think of it, she was playing while I was cooking dinner with her Polly Pockets set. Next I heard she was blowing her nose. I thought that it was a sneeze, but then she said that her nose hurts. As I walk over to look at her, she sends one shoe out of her nose. Lovely. I ask, "Katie, where is the other one?".

"I don't know." I've learned that this is never a good answer from a child, so I ask her to help me look for it. She looks at the ground and turns in a circle. I start freaking out a little. I know that she had two shoes when she started playing. My search extends to the couch cushions and under the chairs. Nothing.

"Katie, did you put the other shoe up your nose, too?"

"Ummmm."

(Polly Pocket shoes are NOT the easiest things to pull out of a child's nose, but I think that Godfather Mike still holds the record for silly things put up their nose, for shoving a marble up his when he was kid!)

School's over and checkups

Anissa is done with teaching for the school year. She went back for the last 4 weeks, which was good, because it (partially) restored her belief that (most) students are normal.

Last semester was really tough with very whiny entitled children who spent their time finding ways to drive their teacher crazy with their apathy. Meanwhile, parents would call/email wondering why their darlings weren't passing. Anissa had to file the lowest grades that she ever gave in her teaching career.

Anissa is hopeful that next school year will be better. But for the next 9 weeks or so, it's summertime!

And what better way to start the summer than to have the children's checkups?
Katie had her 3 year old checkup. She really liked her doctor. Her mother promised a "treat" after the appointment, thinking that she would be getting shots. No shots this year! (Yes, she still got a treat anyway). Katie is healthy and happy. She is 38.5 inches tall and 33 pounds (75th percentiles for both).

Bennett had his 4 month baby check. He is not fond of his doctor since she gave him 3 different shots in his way way chubby legs. But happy boy only screamed his head off for 5 minutes and then was back to his smiley self. He was 27.5 inches long and weighed 18 pounds 1 ounce (Both above the 95th percentile). 42 cm head circumference. What a big boy! He was 15 lbs 9 oz at his 9 week checkup, so he's gained over 2 pounds in 2 months!

Bennett has started to laugh, and Katie has gotten pretty good at making him laugh! He can hold his head up fairly well now, so he likes his "office" (exersaucer) and his front carrier and he even likes being on his belly for short amounts of time. He can grab and hold his toys and his toes.

Katie is quickly becoming a pro on her "big girl" bike with training wheels. She listens really well and knows how to brake, stop and turn. She does have a love of speed and really likes peddling fast and going down hills. We usually have to jog to keep up with her.
